Croatia Fortresses

As seen here in this drone video by paparazzo, Croatia's Klis Fortress is one of the most famous in Europe.  It sits astride a mountain pass through the Dinaric Alps, just east of the city of Split.  The structure began to take its present form in the 9th century AD when it became the seat of the Kings of Croatia.  Its period of greatest prominence came in the early 16th century when the fortress withstood a fearsome decades-long siege by the Ottomans and became seen as the frontier between Christianity and Islam.
